To ensure data protection (patient data, internal clinic operating data) and to guarantee proper process, AFGiB has issued rules of procedure for GiB-DAT in cooperation with the Bavarian Hospital Association (BKG). Based on the rules of Procedure, a data officer was elected to manage the database. In addition, a data commission was formed to supervise the work of the data officer and to define the guidelines for the operation and evaluation of the database. Furthermore, the data commission decides on the data set of the GiB-DAT.

A bilateral agreement is made with the participating clinics, which regulates details of the data exchange, financial aspects, etc.
